Adam Skoretz
March 14, 1924 – November 28, 2017
Adam Skoretz passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children at Strensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, SK, on November 28, 2017, at the age of 93 years.
Adam was born on March 14, 1924, in the Rama District, SK, to Alex and Anna (Ukrainetz) Skoretz. He grew up on his family homestead farm about 8km north-east of Rama, SK. He attended Wolna School in the Rama School District. Being the oldest son, Adam worked hard on the farm. He married his lovely wife, Irene (Yerema), on August 28, 1948. They continued to live on the farm and then in 1959, moved into Buchanan, SK, where they raised their young family of seven children. Adam’s stern and strong work ethic made him a great provider for his family. Throughout his life, Adam worked as a grain farmer and a heavy-duty mechanic. Seasonally, he worked in The Pas and Thompson, MB and for GW Construction.
Adam and Irene were active members of St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church Parish in Buchanan. Adam served on the Church Board, as President for many years and also held many executive positions and assisted as the Church Elder.
Adam enjoyed politics and canvassed for MLA’s and served as a Town Counsellor for the RM of Buchanan. He enjoyed watching the National News to keep up with current events. Adam enjoyed many hobbies which included playing Old-Timer’s Hockey, curling in many local bonspiels, reading and watching wild life and nature shows on tv. He enjoyed watching NHL Hockey and was a Chicago Blackhawks fan. Adam loved fishing and was an avid hunter who enjoyed getting that “big buck” every year. Together, Adam and Irene always planted a big garden and Adam was so proud of his raspberry patch! Fresh raspberries with sugar and cream were a family favourite. Adam and his family enjoyed going to the lake and owned a cabin at Burgis Beach. They enjoyed traveling and took their family on many trips to BC and ON to visit relatives. Adam and Irene enjoyed trips to Palm Springs, California, Brownsville, Texas and a solo trip to Florida. After the passing of his wife in 1999, Adam continued to live in Buchanan. He moved to Saskatoon in 2004 and lived at Ilarion Residence, where he enjoyed many new friends and activities. He enjoyed attending All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Parish. In 2011, Adam was relocated into Stensrud Lodge, where he spent his last six years. The staff enjoyed his pleasant, friendly personality and showed him great care and attention. He will be missed by his loving family and many friends. Adam was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Anna; his loving wife, Irene; son, Lawrence Skoretz; sister and brother-in-law, Sonia and Jim
