After a life lived fully, this wonderful, kind man passed away on November 28, 2017. Adam always believed he had been greatly blessed – first with parents, John and Eva Eckert, who with courage and strength, emigrated from Hungary in 1931 and allowed Adam to call Canada home and then by his dear sisters Hazel Varjabedian (Suren dec) and Catherine Eckert (dec 1931). He met the love of his life, Helen, when she still had pigtails and celebrated 69 years together last August. They had two children, Lynda and Rob and enjoyed their family years enriched by their life and friends at Glenwood United Church, their special neighbours, Patt and Stan Orshinsky, the Lees and Marchinis, and their extended family, Pete and Vi Toth (Vivian), Mary and Hap Moritz, Ann and Charlie Tyler, Gloria and Leo Sorrell, Bertha and Danny Papp, Al and Eleanore Macko, Harry Macko, Mickey and Harold Hagarty and all his nieces and nephews.
In the 70s when Lynda and Rob married, he welcomed Jim Martin and Nancy Sylvestre into the family and loved these “Outlaws” as his own. Then came the world of grandchildren and this was where Adam truly excelled – pure, unconditional love was showered on his “Bud” Chris, his “Little Blue Eyes” Jennifer, his “Lil Bud” David and his AJ namesake, Adam. From swings made out of laundry baskets to hidden candy in the glove compartment, he was always there for them and they knew it. His great grands, Braeden, Caelin, Penelope, Chloe, Sophie, Emma and Nathan completed the team and brought “Pa” many smiles and joy.
While caring for his family was his life’s calling, Adam was a born salesman and combined with his innate way of treating all people with honesty, respect and kindness, he was a successful man, rising from collecting garbage around the Standard Paint and Varnish Company (RM, Inmont, BASF) when he was 7, to their top corner office. He was a man of utmost integrity and sincerity – a true gentleman. He rounded out his life with bowling, golf, woodworking, studying the stock market, and reading. He had a curious mind that loved learning how things worked and he had a smile that always hinted at the mischievous little boy within. He embraced the computer age and enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and family by email. His strong faith carried him through the tough times and he was always willing to put that faith into action by helping others.
He was indeed greatly blessed and he was loved so very much.
