1933-2017
SAMPLE (Halfpenny), Ada Evelyn – Age 83, Mulgrave.
Passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Born in Middle
Melford, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late James Russell
and Beatrice Rhodora (Somers) Halfpenny.
Evelyn moved to New Glasgow in 1951 where she met the man of
her life, Vannie Sample in 1953. In 1962 they moved to Mulgrave where
they raised their family and remained active in the community. Evelyn
worked for many years as a waitress at the Skye Motel in Port
Hastings, where she was a valued employee. She was a member of St.
James Anglican Church, Middle Melford.
Surviving are her children, Linda (John) DeCoste,
Auld’s Cove; Keith, Winnipeg; Ada (Tom) MacIvor, Calgary;
Alex, Winnipeg; Deborah Sample, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont; brother, Ira
(Liz) Halfpenny, Steep Creek; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Mitchell,
Carin, Kolby, Adam, Thomas and Sam; six great-grandsons, Terik, Nolan,
Broden, Carter, Callum and Ben. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband,
Vannie; daughter, Roxanne in infancy; brothers, Seymour, Calvin,
Douglas, Gordon and Everett.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be 11 a.m.
Friday, July 21 from St. James Anglican Church, Middle Melford with
Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Burial will follow in St. James
Anglican Cemetery, Middle Melford. Family flowers only please.
Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of
Nova Scotia or to the Antigonish SPCA.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis
Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be
