Abbie McCann – 1911-2017

1911-2017
MCCANN,
Abbie
Sydney
With sadness, we, the family of Abbie Florence
McCann, announce her passing on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, in Celtic
Court, Sydney, at the age of
106.
Born February
22, 1911, she was the daughter of the late William and Jennie (Peters)
Stiles.
Mom was born
in Humboldt, Sask. and moved to Sydney in her teens. She fell in love
with Cape Breton, where she met and married, Harry and raised their
girls. Mom spent years in real estate and owned the Hospitality Club,
where she called on newcomers and made lifelong friends. She was a
member of First United Church, Sydney. We have been privileged to have
shared our lives with this wonderful woman, mother and loyal
friend.
Abbie is
survived by her daughters, Barbara (Al) Pace, Jane McCann and Debbie
(Harry) Mattinson; niece, Betty Mercer; grandchildren, David, Cathy,
Michael and Paul Pace, Meghan and Michael Pearson, Abbie Knott and
Jennifer Mattinson; eight great-grandchildren, Derrick Dockrill, Kyle,
Justin, Abby, Sarah and Julia Pace, Harper Knott and Jack
Pearson.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Harry McCann and sister, Margaret
Bown.
There will be
no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial
Chapel on Friday, October 6 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Allison Etter
officiating. Interment will take place at a later
date.
Thank you to
the staff of Celtic Court for taking exceptional care of our
mother.
Memorials may
be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova
Scotia.
