Bernice Schihl
(Stella) Bernice Schihl (nee Hays)
January 19, 1922 – November 17, 2017
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mom and
grandmother, Bernice Schihl, who died peacefully on November 17, 2017 at the
age of 95.
Mom was the cornerstone of our family.
She had a way of comforting, being non-judgmental, guiding and
supporting us through our growing years and beyond. She was a special person.
She was loving, and accepted the many challenges she was presented in
life with a smile and optimism. Mom lost her mother at 13 years of age, and her
husband, Joe, at the age of 50, and it was her strong faith that carried her
through many a day. She was caring and
had a strong sense of family which made our family gatherings so very wonderful
and memorable. She loved to laugh. She
would say she had a good life.
Mom grew up in Woodslee as Bernice Hays, married Joe Schihl, and had
six children. She leaves behind her
children Jim, Bob, Jerry (late Wendy), Ken (Grace), Fran, and John; 12
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters
Rita and Veronica, and brother, Jim. She
is pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph, brothers and sisters Hank, Catherine,
Ed, Mike, Francis, Madeline, and Betty Ann.
Mom, we are so very grateful and blessed to have had you for our mom,
and in our lives for so long. You are
loved beyond measure. We will miss you,
and your laugh dearly, but take comfort in knowing you are now with Dad.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Brouillette Manor for
taking such good care of mom the last years of her life.
Visitation will be held at Melady Funeral Home (519-728-1500) 572 Notre
Dame Street, Belle River on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 2-4PM & 6-8PM.
Visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 10AM until time of
Funeral Service at 11AM. Interment to follow at Annunciation Cemetery, Stoney
Point. If so desired, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke
Foundation.
