With deepest regrets we announce the peaceful passing of Alvin Garfield “Woody” Woodman on December 27, 2017 at the Carleton-Kirk Lodge. Garfield was born in Fairville, NB, on August 18, 1932 to the late Alvin and Mabel (Ryan) Woodman and was the loving husband of 59 years to Joan (Fowler) Woodman.
Garfield worked as a Stevedore for the ILA in his early years, later moving into carpentry, working with various companies until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed bowling and playing darts and cribbage. Although he could be stubborn at times, he was more easygoing than anything. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Joan, his son Gary (Shelly) Woodman, 2 daughters; Susan Woodman and Karen (Paul) Hobart, 8 grandchildren; Tyler (Sarah) Whitaker, Allyssa (Bryan) Garner, Matthew (Kendra) Hobart, Kristina Hobart, Ryan (Selma) Woodman, Brayden (Melissa) Woodman, Alvin Woodman and Robbie (Erin) Woodman, and 6 great grandchildren; Flynt Garner, Clyff Garner, Rayne Garner, Garrett Woodman, Jack Hobart and Atticus Whitaker. As well, two sisters; Joan Pendleton and Valerie (Douglas) Mason, son-in-law Ed Whitaker, nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son Alvin “Robert” Woodman, daughter Margaret Ann Whitaker, brother Tom Woodman, sister-in-law Cledith and brother-in-law Wayne Pendleton.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held from the former St. Joachim’s Parish on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Garfield’s family would appreciate memorial donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
