Obituary for John Caird
Peacefully, surrounded by family love, John F. Caird passed away on Dec. 21, 2017, in his 97th year.
Born in Leeds, England on Sept. 30, 1921, he spent most of his adult life in Oakville, ON. John was loved and will be greatly missed by Betty, wife of 65 years; children: Martin (Janet), Jane (Victor), Andrew; grandchildren Ally, Will (Tori), Morgan, Melanie (Jackson), Lindsay, Kyle, and Courtney; great grandchild, Sage.
John proudly served in WWII, RAF, Flight Lieutenant, piloting B24 Liberators. Post war, John embarked upon a career in Insurance which took him to Canada with his wife and children. Business acumen paved the way to his appointments as President of Eagle Star Ins. Co., IBO’82 and Halton-Caird Ins. He was fortunate to have a career he loved and continued to be active in Insurance until he reluctantly retired on his 96th birthday. He earned a Political Science degree at 65 and continued with French classes into his 90’s.
A long-time member of the Oakville Club, Oakville Golf Club, The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and Probus, John enjoyed athletic pursuits, social activities and charitable endeavours. He spent many a happy summer enjoying cottage life in Honey Harbour and winters warmed by the Naples, Florida sun.
As per Johns wishes, a private family service has taken place and he has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place in the New Year.
A special thank you to the Wellness staff at Hearthstone by the Lake, especially Amber, Anna-Marie, Heather and Grace. Donations in his memory to Oakville Humane Society, or charity of your choice, very much appreciated. Please visit the Book of Memories at www.wardfuneralhome.com.
