LEYES, Carol (nee McLeod)
Carol Leyes, 79, passed away, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at Guelph General Hospital.
Born on December 17th, 1937, Carol McLeod was born the eldest of four children in Edmonton, Alberta. (She was given the name Carol because her birthday was so close to Christmas). In 1946, the McLeod family moved to Windsor, Ontario, where Carol attended school at St. Mary’s Academy. One night at a CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) dance, Carol met a handsome young man by the name of Paul Leyes. The two began dating, and on June 25th 1958, at the age of 20, Carol married Paul, who was then 27, and together they raised four beautiful children. They initially lived in Royal Oak Michigan and then moved to Warren a few years later when the children began attending school. In 1968, Carol and her family moved to Georgetown, Ontario, Canada where they lived for the next four years until they eventually settled in Guelph in 1972.
The Leyes family had a creative, hectic, and happy household, and Carol was always a loving, and supportive wife and mother. She and Paul hosted countless family dinners over the years and always made friends and relatives feel welcome in their home.
After many years spent as an outstanding secretary, Carol went on to become one of Guelph’s most successful and accomplished Real Estate agents, a career she thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at for over 30 years. She made many wonderful friends at Royal City Real Estate and continued to stay in touch and socialize with them throughout the course of her life.
Carol enjoyed going up to Aintree Trailer Camp in the summers, where she and her family enjoyed many sunny afternoons on the shores of Lake Huron. Carol also loved taking her family on vacations to Florida, where they spent several Christmas’s on St. Pete’s Beach.
Reading the Toronto Star each day was one of Carol’s favourite pastimes, and she prided herself on staying up to date with current events. Carol was a great conversationalist and always enjoyed meeting and socializing with people and maintaining her relationships with close friends.
Carol is survived and lovingly remembered by Paul, her husband of 60 years, and her four children and their families: her son Tim and wife Lisa of Toronto and their children Madison, Darcy, and Hollland; her daughter Theresa and her husband Eric of Guelph and their son Dylan; her daughter Dianne and her partner Paulette of Russellville Arkansas; and her son David and wife Kristin of Oshawa and their children Leo and Henry.
Carol will also be dearly missed by her three brothers and their families; Bruce and Yvonne McLeod of Windsor and their children John and Lisa, Bill McLeod of Punta Gorda, Florida, and his children Laurie and Karen, and Bob and Kathy of Ballantrae, and their children Ryan and Mike.
Her family will receive friends for a celebration of life at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. A service to commemorate Carol’s life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 5:00 p.m.
