Joyce Marie Estabrooks
Joyce Marie Estabrooks (Dickinson), born in Simonds, NB and resident
of Fredericton, NB until 2015, passed away in Ottawa, Ontario after a
valiant battle with cancer.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gerald Estabrooks.
Mourning the loss of their mother and grandmother are Paul, Lisa,
Hannah, Lauren, Madelyn and Abigail Estabrooks of Toronto; Bruce,
Megs, Hazel, Eddie and Molly Estabrooks of Edmonton, Alberta; Sarah
Estabrooks and Kevin, Beatrice, Eloise and Theodore Faschoway of
Ottawa, Ontario; and her honourary sons, Ohygen Roberts of Saskatoon
and Winston Roberts of Fredericton. Daughter of the late Ronald and
Ruby (Burlock) Dickinson, life-long residents of Simonds, NB, she is
also survived by her only brother, Robert (Gloria) Dickinson of
Burlington, Ontario, her niece and nephews. As the eldest of 13
cousins, she will be missed by family, as well as dear friends, in
Fredericton, Hartland and beyond.
Joyce attended the University of New Brunswick, where she graduated in
1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and subsequently earned a Bachelor
and Masters of Education. From 1970-72, she was President of the UNB
Associated Alumni and her three children followed in her footsteps at
UNB. She joined the staff at Fredericton High School and retired as
Head of the Math Department after her second teaching tenure in 1999.
Joyce was a committed genealogist, who documented the family history
and photographic legacy of her Dickinson ancestors and her own family.
Throughout her life in Fredericton, Joyce was a faithful member of
Brunswick Street Baptist Church, where she served several terms as
Moderator and as Deacon from 2011-15.
Joyce relocated to Ottawa in 2015 with her devoted husband, to be
closer to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her
greatest pride and joy, and she was surrounded by them for a memorable
final Thanksgiving celebration this October.
Joyce went to be with her Lord and Saviour on 3 December. Family are
gathering in Fredericton for the funeral, to be held at Brunswick
Street Baptist Church at 11:00 am on 9 December. She will be interred
at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland, NB at 4:00 pm on 9 December. A
memorial service will be held on December 14th at First Baptist Church
in Ottawa. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Joyce
Estabrooks Memorial Mission Fund care of Brunswick Street Baptist
