Doris Downing
1930-2017
Doris Downing passed away at Monarch Hall on Tuesday, 14
November 2017. Doris was born in Chatham Head and was the
daughter of the late Harry and Rita (Ullock) Allen. Mom loved the
cottage in Cap Pelé, swimming point to point with her
friends, gardening and planting flowers. Mom and Dad enjoyed
going to their second home in Bradenton FL for the winter and the
cottage for the summer and fall. They loved dancing and
music and while in Bradenton, Mom was renowned for her wonderful
teaching and choreography in line dancing.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Vaughn Herman
Downing in July 7, 2007. He was the love of her life, the
best father, and Doris’s soulmate for over 55
years. Doris was a wonderful mother to her three chosen
children Cheryl Downing, Shawn Crossman (Lindsay) and Erin Downing who
will dearly miss her. She loved children so much.
They adopted three children so that she and Dad could love and nurture
them, often sacrificing to ensure they had every opportunity in
life. She is also survived by four wonderful grandchildren –
Leah, Brandon, Matthew and Ethan, a sister, Joyce Allen, as well as
several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased
by a sister, Norma Van Wart and her brothers, Gerald and
Harry.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd.,
Riverview (869-2007) on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 7-9pm. A
funeral service will take place at St. George’s Anglican
Church (51 Church St., Moncton) on Friday, November 17, 2017 at
11:00am with Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating. She will be laid to
rest with her husband in a private ceremony at Graves Island at a
future date.
The family would prefer donations to Friends of the Moncton
Hospital or the Cancer Society. No flowers please.
