Obituary Overview
Rosalyn Janet Theresa Nielson (nee Van Dyke)
December 7, 1930 – November 2, 2017
Our beloved, beautiful blue-eyed mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in the early morning hours.
Predeceased by Walter, her cherished husband of 62 years, her parents Gerard and Martha Van Dyke, brother Adrian and sister Joanne, her granddaughter Sarah and great-granddaughter Hannah. Rosalyn is survived by her sister Margaret (Rolf) Hougen, adoring children Warren (Erica), Joanne (Glenn) and Carol (Michael), her six grandsons Matt (Jocelyn), Daniel (Lana), Joseph, Geoffrey (Amanda), Kenneth and Nicholas, and her great-granddaughters Charlotte, Mara and Emma. She will also be fondly remembered by her large extended family and friends.
Mom will be remembered as gentle and selfless. She was deeply devoted to her late husband Walt and to her family. She had a smile that lit up a room and a joy-filled laugh. She loved nothing more than to spoil her family with her legendary homemade pies and cookies. Brereton Lake was a gathering place each summer to bring our family together to share wonderful meals, many card games, hearty laughs and memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will always remain wrapped around our hearts.
Our family would like to thank the 8th floor Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion they showed towards our Mom.
A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
