Obituary for Helena Palynchuk
Palynchuk, Helena (nee VanderVoort)
Helena passed away peacefully on November 2, 2017, in her 91st year at the Village of Wentworth Heights. Helena was the fourth child born in Holland to Peter and Anna VanderVoort; the young family with 5 children immigrated to Chesley, Ontario in 1929. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Bill Palynchuk (2000). She will be sadly missed by her family: Cora Lanigan (Harry-1988), Peter (Barbara-2014), Leo (Mary-2014), Jim VanderVoort (Rita), Anne McLean (Don), Bernadette McCormick, and Judy McEwen (Lorne); sisters-in-law Rita, Shirley, and Yvonne VanderVoort. Predeceased by her brothers Frank (2017), Gerry (2002), and Nick (1997) VanderVoort, and her sister Marie McIsaac (2016). Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Helena worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Accounts department for 45 years. She was a very devote catholic and loved to read at daily mass until she moved into a retirement home two years ago. She was a very generous person, donating to many charities and the less fortunate she encountered daily in downtown Hamilton. Helena also volunteered at Good Shepherd’s Men’s Centre for over 20 years. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (7 East Ave S.) on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. with prayers at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Charles Garnier Parish (129 Hughson St. S.) on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Chesley Cemetery (4th St NW, Chesley) at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Good Shepherd Centre would be greatly appreciated, otherwise, perform an act of kindness to another person.
