O’Neill, John Gerard
Peacefully at Windermere on the Mount on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 John Gerard O’Neill in his 78th year. Loving husband, father , grandfather, uncle, brother-in law and friend continued in his journey to meet God. Beloved partner of Anne (Gelinas) O’Neill. Father to Brian (Carolyn Buck), Patrick (Andra nee Townshend), Brendan (Monique Piccin). Loving Grandpa John of Connor, and Nolan, Grace and Lily and Dat of Kyla. Brother-in-law of Mary Frances (Edward) Damaren, Joseph (late Carolle) Gelinas, Bill (Katherine) Gelinas, Carolyn (Carl) Wilson, Gloria (Terry) Fenn, Peter Gelinas, David (Marie) Gelinas, Tom (Patti) Gelinas, Leo (Cathy) Gelinas, Cathy (late Jim) Bardawill, Brenda (Garry) Koehler, Jane (Patrick) Bedard, Beth Risi (late Paul Lovett).
Following his Graduation from Catholic Central High School John was a committed 37 year employee of 3M Canada and in his retirement provided leadership to a number of local private companies.
A man of great faith John’s commitment to serving others began with the Boy Scouts of Canada over 65 years ago. His quiet leadership benefitted many areas of the London community including Sport, Education, Health Care, Youth and the Catholic Diocese of London. Of particular note are the many boards he chaired: St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, King’s University College and Catholic Central High School. John was also a director of the London Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Information Technology Association of Canada, and London Hospital Linen Service.
John’s lifelong commitment to the Roman Catholic Diocese of London was recognized in 2010 when he was awarded the Bene Merenti medal by Pope Benedict XVI.
John lead a very public life but first and foremost he was a loving father and partner and a caring and wise grandfather.
Visitors will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 o’clock. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church, 511 Cheapside Street, on Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date. Donations to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
