Obituary for Benjamin Smith
SMITH Benjamin Burton “Benny” age 67 of Melbourne, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2017 in Melbourne. Born in Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., N.S. he was raised by Austin and Gerty Devine. Benny mossed in his younger years, worked on the M.V. Bluenose, R.H. Davis, and bought clams for Innovative Fishers. He was also a supervisor at the harbour authority in Pinkneys Point. He was known to have the gift to gab and always loved a good conversation. Benny had a fondness for animals, especially his dog Remmie. He is survived by his loving wife Marion Smith (Doucette); Step daughter, Carol Anne (Ang) Duckworth, Winnipeg Manitoba; Brother in Law, Joseph Doucette, Melbourne; and Sister, Rose Crosby, South Ohio; Brother, Donald Smith, Richfield ; nephew, Steve; niece, Shelley; Step Niece, Beth and Step Nephew, Todd. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and David Smith. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Wednesday November 1, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Thursday November 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Melbourne with Rev. Mr. Deacon Stephen Bourque officiating . Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with a reception being held at the Melbourne Community hall thereafter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
