Obituary of Pietje “Edith” Gillissen
Pietje (Edith) Jagersm- Gillissen was born on December 4, 1929 in Tietsjerkstaredeel ,The Netherlands. She was youngest of seven girls.
Edith met John Gillissen in the late 40?s & married on Oct 23 1951. They were best friends, blessed with an amazing relationship.
Her husband John had the ability to convince Edith to do almost anything including moving to Canada….not once but twice! A huge feat for Edith who had a terrible fear of flying but she would do anything for John.
Adventures included building or renovating – number of homes in both Holland & Canada. They had a common love for dogs & their home always included a dog or two. They happily worked side by side whether that was in the office, the yard or the garden & in their retirement they were never apart. As family & friends in both Holland & Canada, we will fondly remember the great parties John & Edith would host.
When John suffered a stroke in 2008, life drastically changed for them as he required full care at Faith Manor at
Holland Christian Homes. Edith moved to an apartment close by so she could spend each day with him.
When John passed away in 2012, Edith?s life was never the same. She missed him every day. The last few years were difficult for Edith & had recently been moved to a full care home. After a short stay at the home, she passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017. With certainty, there was a great reunion in heaven!
Also predeceased by her sisters Jennie, Lois, Wiep, Ann, Joke, Rietje, Edith will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. A private family funeral service was held at J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Georgetown. Interment Glen Williams Cemetery. In memory contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
