Obituary of Betty Shannon
Shannon, Betty Marie – of Rodney and formerly Hamilton, passed away at home on Tuesday October 24, 2017, age 84. Born in Highgate, Ontario to parents the late Mary G. (nee Stockton) and Lorne H. Garton. Beloved wife of Bob Shannon for 28 years.
Loving mother of Sharon and Chuck Sokoll of Etobicoke, Pam and Ken Carter of Bluevale, Eric and Melinda Buckler of Australia, and Donna and Randy White of Brussels. Grandmother of eighteen grandchildren, thirty seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Sister of Ken Garton (Rose Van Every) of Ridgetown, Carol Smith of Ridgetown, and Lorna Garton of Strathroy. Sister-in-law toHerb (Bonnie) Shannon of Blyth, Tom (Barb) Shannon of Seaforth, Scott (Sandra) Shannon of Ingersoll, Blaine Shannon of Kitchener, and Sharon Shannon of BC.
Predeceased by daughter Wendy and brother-in-law Harold Jewell.
Betty was a social butterfly and enjoyed spending time playing cards, baking and cooking for family. Many international students called the Shannon house home for many years while they studied English in Canada.
Visitation will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main St. E., Ridgetown, on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 1-2pm. A Funeral Service for Betty will then be held at the Funeral Home at 2pm. Cremation to follow.
Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Poppy Trust Fund, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the London Regional Cancer Centre. Online condolences may be left at www.mckinlayfuneralhome.com.
