Gonzaga, Mary Lee- Shelburne. The world has lost a special spirit. It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Lee Gonzaga announces her passing on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017. Mary Lee will be lovingly remembered by her children Jaime and Jo Ann and their father Eduardo Gonzaga; her grandchildren, Justine, Meagan, Graham, Miles, and Griffin; her great-grandchildren Wyatt and Ophelia, and her sisters Jane and Sally and their families. The daughter of the late Russell and Muriel (Swansburg) MacKay, Mary Lee was born on February 5th, 1944 in her beloved Shelburne, Nova Scotia. She lived life to the fullest, always looking for opportunities to care for others. She will be remembered for her dynamic, artistic, thoughtful, and industrious spirit, as well as her tremendous love of music, nature, and animals. Mary Lee loved her friends as if they were family and left a lasting impression on the lives of those who knew her. Mary Lee lived in many interesting places and worked in a number of trades but ultimately returned to Nova Scotia. She was a self-taught historian, able to answer any question about the rich history of Shelburne. She loved being part of the music of the church. She rescued 2 greyhounds, Jock and Beck, whom she cherished, and offered extensive service with humility and gratitude, in her 30 years of sobriety. Mary Lee’s family and friends would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of her healthcare providers, especially the VON. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd. A Celebration of Mary Lee’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Trinity United Church, Shelburne with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. Family flowers only. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice. A reception in the church hall will follow the service.
