1930 – 2017
Obituary for John James
JAMES, John passed away in his sleep in Markham on October 5, 2017 in his 87th year after a determined, valiant battle with cancer.
Devoted husband to Andrina for over 62 and a half years, a story that began in 1955 in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Humorous, unpredictable dad of John, Harry (Lynne), Brian (Sherry), and Sher (Rino) Schembri. Very cool Papa to Mandy, Justin (Amy), Shauna (Sam) Bligh, Micaela, Nicolette, McIvor, Paris, Corrado, and Bowie (great). Brother of Isa. Predeceased by his mother Jane (nee McIvor) and siblings William, Jeannie, Jessie, Francis, Philip. In service to The Royal Navy, 1946-1955.
Please, absolutely NO flowers. Donations to Markham Stouffville Hospital in John’s honour would be greatly appreciated. We are immensely grateful for the care received from Markham Stouffville Hospital, especially the incredible support of Dr. Leena Hajra whose kindness and attention will not be forgotten.
John, Andrina and their kids moved to Canada in 1967 and began the new chapter of their lives in Toronto, Ontario. John’s strong work ethic led him to long-term positions at General Electric and Menasco Aerospace. Retiring didn’t suit him so he quickly took up work with the Corps of Commissionaires at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters. After John and Andrina relocated to Markham in 2005 to be closer to their children and grandchildren, he soon took up work again and was a cherished member of the team at Petra Hygienics.
Both family and friends adored John’s sharp one-liners, puns, and lively commentary and will forever use their favorite “Johnny” James quotes.
