Obituary for Geraldine McPhee
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the death of Geraldine McPhee at the age of 85 years, at her home with her husband of 63 years and her children by her side. She was an excellent cook and her Sunday dinners were enjoyed by many family and friends over the years. Her cinnamon buns were legendary! The cottage at Remi Lake was her sanctuary. After retiring from teaching, Fort Myers Beach became their winter home. She enjoyed playing bridge and quilting and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her family was her greatest joy, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could always bring a smile to her face. She leaves her husband Jack, her children, Lynn Ritchie, Dale McPhee, John McPhee, Jane Bélanger (Luc) of Kapuskasing and Joan McPhee of Burlington to mourn her passing. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Kevin Ritchie, Ryan Ritchie (Samantha), Garrett Ritchie (Erin), Amanda Bélanger, Sheldon Bélanger, Braden Bélanger, Neil Bélanger and Jordan Hillman, and her great-grandchildren, Mason Ritchie, Emily Ritchie, Abigail Ritchie, Alyssa Ritchie and Gillian Ritchie. She also leaves behind her sisters, Diane Lavigne (Maurice), Doris Jagosz (Gerry) and Hélène Melanson, two sisters-in-law, Betty-Ann Lafleur and Elva Hanlan, two brothers-in-law, George Ethier and Lloyd McPhee, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Bruce McPhee, seven siblings, Cliff Lafleur, Gérald Lafleur, Léo-Paul Lafleur, Georgina Mair, Lillian Ethier, Jeannette Ouellette and Anne Sharp. A funeral service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at a later date with Father Hervé Sauvé officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kapuskasing Food Bank or St. Patrick’s Church would be greatly appreciated.
C’est le cœur lourd que la famille annonce le décès de Géraldine McPhee à l’âge de 85 ans, à son domicile avec son époux de 63 ans et ses enfants à ses côtés. Elle était une excellente cuisinière et les soupers du dimanche qu’elle préparait faisaient le plaisir de nombreux membres de sa famille et des amis au fil des ans. Ses brioches à la cannelle étaient légendaires! Le chalet au lac Rémi était son sanctuaire. Après sa retraite de l’enseignement, elle et son époux passaient l’hiver à leur maison de Fort Myers Beach. Elle aimait bien jouer au bridge et faire de la courtepointe. Elle était membre à vie de la Catholic Women’s League. Sa plus grande joie était sa famille; ses petits-enfants et ses arrière-petits-enfants pouvaient toujours la faire sourire. Elle laisse pour pleurer sa perte son époux Jack; ses enfants Lynn Ritchie, Dale McPhee, John McPhee et Jane Bélanger (Luc), tous de Kapuskasing; et Joan McPhee de Burlington. Elle manquera énormément à ses petits-enfants : Kevin Ritchie, Ryan Ritchie (Samantha), Garrett Ritchie (Erin), Amanda Bélanger, Sheldon Bélanger, Braden Bélanger, Neil Bélanger et Jordan Hillman, de même que ses arrière-petits-enfants, Mason Ritchie, Emily Ritchie, Abigail Ritchie, Alyssa Ritchie et Gillian Ritchie. Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses sœurs Diane Lavigne (Maurice), Doris Jagosz (Gerry) et Hélène Melanson; deux belles-soeurs, Betty-Ann Lafleur et Elva Hanlan; deux beaux-frères, George Ethier et Lloyd McPhee; ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Elle fut prédécédée par son fils Bruce McPhee; et sept frères et sœurs : Cliff Lafleur, Gérald Lafleur, Léo-Paul Lafleur, Georgina Mair, Lillian Ethier, Jeannette Ouellette et Anne Sharp. Un service funéraire aura lieu à l’église St. Patrick à une date ultérieure avec le père Hervé Sauvé comme célébrant. Comme témoignage de sympathie, la famille sera reconnaissante de dons à la Banque alimentaire de Kapuskasing ou à l’église St. Patrick.
