Edward T. Jones (Sam) was born on November 11, 1931 in Lacombe, Alberta to Casey and Wilma Jones. Sam was the youngest son in the family of seven, having four brothers and two sisters. Sam passed away on July 11, 2017 surrounded by love.
Sam was raised and schooled in Lacombe. His family owned a dray business delivering supplies and groceries by horse and carriage around the Lacombe area and he worked for the family business for several years. As a young man Sam spent lots of time with his siblings and their families in the Lacombe area . Sam joined the Navy in 1952 and was off to Korea, returning in 1957. After the Navy, he went to work for Calgary Power (TransAlta) and spent the next several years working across Alberta. Sam spent time working in Southern Alberta in the Lethbridge/Medicine Hat Area, as well as Leduc, Wainwright with the last of his working days were in Camrose. Sam married Irene on July 18, 1975 and the two of them were able to enjoy lots of travelling, camping, fishing and visiting with their friends. They took great pride in their beautiful yard and enjoyed the friendships with their wonderful neighbors, visiting back and forth across the alley. Sam and Irene had tons of friends and enjoyed life to the fullest! He was blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family that he shared lots of laughs and good times with and he treasured that above all else. Sam was an avid hunter and loved fishing. He was known for his homemade sausages made of everything from elk to duck! He played hockey pretty much his entire life and travelled many parts of the world with his hockey team. He loved the game and all the friends he met along the way. One of the pictures displayed here today is Sam’s famous wall of hockey pins that got him a spot in the newspaper. Sam even played hockey while in the Navy. After Irene’s passing in 2015 Sam relocated to his home town of Lacombe and resided in the Lacombe Seniors Lodge. Sam enjoyed his time there and was always at the Tuesday BINGO game and even took up playing pool with the boys. He made lots of new friends and was adored by the staff. Sam will be sadly missed by all who knew him and treasured forever by those he loved.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister Josephine (Steve) Kuefler; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Irene; sister Jean Grove; and brothers Eldon, Bev, Ivan and Norman.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday July 15, 2017 from the Camrose United Church with Rev. Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Inurnment will take place in Camrose Cemetery at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of ones choice.
