It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor V. Stubley in her hometown of Montreal.
Eleanor was the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University. She demonstrated both a profound devotion and a fierce advocacy for students, learning and artistry. She inspired all those around her with her humanity, passion and courage. Well-known as a brilliant artist, author, conductor and scholar, her artistry touched diverse audiences throughout the world.
In addition, Eleanor was a vital member of her community; her work included serving as the music director of the Yellow Door Choir, working with ensembles across North America and Europe, bringing opera to elementary school children and as Artistic Director of the Chora Carmina contemporary music ensemble, leading innovative interdisciplinary collaborations between Quebec musicians and visual artists.
Eleanor moved through life feeling, listening, and observing the details and poetry of her surroundings. She was guided by an adventurous spark and deep love for those around her. With her passing, she leaves an immeasurable gap in the lives of her treasured family members, collaborators and friends.
The family will receive condolences at J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home, 2125 Notre-Dame Street, Lachine (www.jjcardinal.ca 514-639-1511) on Tuesday, August 22 from 1 PM to 3PM followed by a celebration of Eleanor’s life in the chapel of the funeral home.

The Schulich School of Music will be holding a public event in memory of Eleanor early this fall.
