William “Bill” Ashford
1941-2017
William “Bill” Ashford of Plaster Rock, NB, passed away
unexpectedly at his home on the morning of August 11, 2017.
Bill was born in Oak Point, NB, on September 23, 1941. He was the son
of the late Smith and Olive (Stewart) Ashford. Bill leaves behind his
wife, Sheila Ashford (Wright); his daughter, Coralynn Giordano of King
City, ON; his son, David Ashford (Shelley) of Red Rapids, NB; his
granddaughters, Sarah May-Jardine, Brianna Giordano, and Daniella
Giordano; his special little buddy, Ryley; his sister, Shirley Francis
of Hampton, NB; his brothers, Stephen Ashford of Saint John, James
Ashford (Dorothy Tapley) of Everett, NB; along with many nieces and
nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Etta Parsons, Vesta
Parsons, Ada Connell, Edith McNally, and Carolann Mahaney.
Bill worked at Fraser’s Lumber Mill and also worked in various retail
stores in the Plaster Rock area for many years. He was a Volunteer
Firefighter in Plaster Rock for 25 years. Bill also served on the
Municipal Council as Deputy Mayor for four years. He was a member of
the Plaster Rock Golf and Curling Club. He enjoyed many activities,
such as curling, golfing, camping, wood working, canoeing on the
Tobique, four-wheeling, and fishing salmon and trout. Bill skipped the
Provincial Firefighter Curling Champions for four years. He was also
inducted into the Plaster Rock Sports Hall of Fame on two occasions,
once for curling and the other for baseball.
Bill was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the Tobique Chapel in Plaster Rock with visitation on
Monday 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15,
2017 at 11 am from the Tobique Chapel. Pastor Leonard Cousins
officiating. Interment will follow in the Linton Corner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Victoria County SPCA,
the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society
would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock.
