SALTER, Mrs. Margaret age 97 of Swift Current, SK, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at the Herbert Long Term Care Home, Herbert, SK. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11.00 a.m. from St. Stephen The Martyr Anglican Church with the Reverend Chris Dowdeswell officiating. The interment will take place on Saturday August 19, 2017 at 10.00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK. Pallbearers are Cory Salter, Chad Salter, Shane Castle, Melodie Saville, Brad Salter and Brent Salter.
Margaret is survived by her four children: Gerald (Val) Salter, Sharon (Blaine) Castle, Terry (Connie) Salter and Ron (Cheryl) Salter; grandchildren Nicole (Kent) Mickleborough, Chad (Lisa) Salter, Melodie (Lance) Saville, Tammy (Dwayne) Nelson, Shane (Tammy) Castle, Ryan (Stephanie) Castle, Kathleen (Mark) Ridgely, Brad (Nicola) Salter, Cory (Shara) Salter, Brent Salter, twenty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Leslie, a son Leonard, at birth, and granddaughter Jill, brother Ian and sister-in-law Orpha, brother Allen and sister-in-law Edith, sister Mary and brother-in-law Vern as well as her parents George and Jane Hay.
Margaret was born August 30, 1919 at home in the Duncairn district and attended Wilhelmina school, taking high school by correspondence. She married Leslie Salter in 1940 and to them five children were born. Gerald, Leonard, who died in infancy, Sharon, Terry and Ron. They moved to Swift Current to start Gerald in school in 1947 and lived there until 1962 when they returned to the farm at Webb.
Upon retirement in 1979 they returned to Swift Current spending their time caring for their house and yard, supporting the Swift Current Broncos as a member of the Hockey Hounds and travelling to Regina, Saskatoon and Lethbridge to visit children and grandchildren. Margaret spent many hours reading, knitting and sewing. She was Treasurer for the Anglican Church Women and Treasurer for the Prairie View Lodge Residence Club for several years. Later she would travel to Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico on vacations with her children as well as frequent trips to Regina, Lethbridge and Portland to visit family.
Memorial donations in her memory to St. Stephen’s Anglican Church ACW, 108 2 Ave. NE, Swift Current, SK S9H 2C7 or CNIB , 2160 Broad St, Regina, SK S4P 1Y5.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Herbert Heritage Manor and the Herbert Integrated Facility for the wonderful and compassionate care their mother received while in their care.
