It is with great sadness we announce that Shirley Ruth Haid (nee Kernen) passed away in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 84 on July 24th, 2017. She was predeceased by her sister, Louise Legge. Shirley was born in Saskatoon on May 19th, 1933 to Charles and Murial Kernen (Elliott). She spent her early years on the farm near Girvin, SK. Shirley attended City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon and started her first job as a telephone switchboard operator. After attending technical collage, CKOM radio station was lucky to secure her services. A visit to Regina altered her path when Shirley got a job at Air Canada. There she met Ed and they were married in Saskatoon on April 2, 1956. They eventually settled in Regina where they raised 5 children. Shirley was always involved with the kids’ activities, ranging from motocross racing to the Lion’s Band. Ed and Shirley retired and moved to Anglin Lake, SK in 1987 where they made their new home. Winters were enjoyed in BC near various ski areas where Ed loved to ski and Shirley frequented the ballet, symphonies, art exhibits, shopping and visiting family and friends. They continued to enjoy summers up at beautiful Anglin Lake. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ed, and her children Mark (Liz) of Kelowna, Lawrence (Heather) of Regina, Linda (Walter Egg) of Destruction Bay, YT, Michael (Shaindy Gardiner) of Cochrane, AB, and Nancy (Doug Vanbeselaere) of Calgary. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Taylor & Drew Haid and Heidi & Simone Vanbeselaere. The many friends, special nieces & nephews and their families held a special place in Shirley’s heart. Shirley was the best at keeping in touch with family and friends either through regular phone calls or letters written on her old electric typewriter and more recently emails and texts. The family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated nursing staff on the 6th floor at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Dr. Ardell (family doctor of 20 years) and the many friends that supported Shirley and family. A Funeral Mass will be held July 31st, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Christopher Lake, SK. The family invites all for fellowship following the service.
