Lionel Reid McPhail – 1944 – 2017

Obituary of Lionel McPhail
Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday July 20, 2017 at the age of 73.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Janet (Hornick) McPhail; his son, Chris and his wife, JoAnne; his daughter, Dawn and her husband Tyler Lessard; six much loved and cherished grandchildren; Ben, Callan, Amelie, Alec, William and Juliette.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan and raised in Windsor Ontario, the son of Stewart and Annabelle McPhail, he relocated to Waterloo with his young family in the 1970s.
He was a lover of family, travel, animals and nature. Some of his most cherished memories are those of the time spent at the cottage teaching children and grandchildren to swim, spending evenings fishing worms onto hooks and working away on endless improvement projects. He was a kind and thoughtful father, a hard-working example, an exemplary teacher and a quiet and patient leader. He lives on through all the students whose
lives he touched and the children and grandchildren he nurtured throughout his life. We have all been blessed and touched to call him teacher, husband, father and grandfather.
He joins his predeceased son, (Donald) Keith, who passed away in a tragic accident in 1998.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Reid’s life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday July 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home
Condolences for the family and donations to The Children’s Wish Foundation may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
