Mary Marguerite MacGillivray
1926-2017
Mary Marguerite MacGillivray, 90, of Hillcrest St.,
Antigonish, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 7, 2017, in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Antigonish,
she was a daughter of the late Jack and Margaret “Bibby”
(Wilmot) MacGillivray.
Mary attended Mount St. Bernard College in
Antigonish and graduated from St. Joseph’s School of
Nursing, Glace Bay. She nursed in Antigonish, Boston, Lethbridge, San
Francisco, Saginaw and Detroit, MI. Upon retirement in 1982 Mary
returned to Antigonish, spending summers in Bay-Loch. She was a member
of St. Ninian’s Parish. In her youth, Mary was an
accomplished highland dancer, and enjoyed playing softball, golf and
skiing. She was an excellent seamstress, knitter and quilter. She also
enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends.
Surviving are sister Doris MacGillivray,
Antigonish, brother, Fr. Angus, Cape George and sisters-in-law Jean
and Helen and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and
grandnephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by
brothers Ronald and Charlie Joe, sister Anna Claire
Shand
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday, May 9 in
MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass
11:00am Wednesday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Revs. Angus
MacGillivray and Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery. Donations to charity of choice.
