Richard (Dick) Bacon - August 2

Richard (Dick) Bacon – August 2, 1925 – April 10, 2017

In Loving Memory Of
Richard (Dick) Bacon
Richard “Dick” Bacon, longtime resident of the Grande Prairie area, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at the age of 91 years.
Dick attended school at Fort Saskatchewan and at Calgary Tech. He followed his interests in mechanics and construction, and he learned to fly.
He did chartering in the North West Territories, joined the Wartime Harvest Brigade, and for several years, took crew and combines to Oklahoma to follow the wheat harvest North West into Montana. He later was called to serve with the American forces in Korea.
Dick met a lovely young school teacher, Fay Johnson. He married and was devoted to her for 65 years.
They had three sons that they raised on a farm North East of Grande Prairie – the original Carveth land. Dick was interested in all that his sons did and was very generous with his love, be it in a workshop, on the land, with pets, or on excursions.
He is survived by his wife Fay; children: Jim (Karen), Max (Linda), and Dean (Vicki); grandchildren: Dallas, Kodi, Jessi, Kim (Nathan), and Kelly (Bruce); great-grandchildren: Kohen, Dawson, David, Wessan, and Aria; sisters in-law Esther (Warren) Foss, Miriam (Elwood) Galloway, Phyllis Williams, and Sheila (Herman) Thorsen; and very special friends the Wells’ Family.
He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Florence Bacon; sister Gilda (Max) Olive; grandson Dustin; and in-laws: Bob Williams, and Shirley and Richard Kelpe.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation (10409-98 St. Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2E8).
