Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald S. Assaly at the age of 89 years.
Ron is survived by his brother Richard Assaly (Betty), son Dan (Jessica), grandchildren Lauren and Mitch, daughter Lisa (John) as well as his long-time friend Donna Saurette and her family Patrick, Doris, Matthew and Ali and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Peter and Elizabeth Assaly; his wife of 41 years Elaine (Shaw), brothers Albert (Dorothy), Arthur and his sister Frances Haddad (William).
Ron was a very successful, well-respected businessman. Ron was an Edmonton Eskimo football fan who supported the sport and was a long-standing season ticket holder since 1949, Shareholder, Director, as well as an Eskimo Alumni Association member. Everyone attached to these organizations always enjoyed his company at the many events he attended. The smile on his face, along with the positive demeanour he carried wherever he went, will forever be remembered by us all.
He was one of the founders of the Edmonton Klondike Days Association and was the Admiral of the Sourdough Raft Fleet in 1974. He was also on the Old Strathcona School Alumni Committee. Ronald received the Alberta Centennial Medal from The Honorable Norman Kwong in 2005 in recognition of outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta.
As a healthy lifestyle advocate, Ron was still weight training and very active into his late 80’s. He was respected and admired by many, his optimism and positive outlook on life will be missed.
Cremation has been completed. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club – date to be announced in this column.
