Denise Marguerite Sieniewicz – 2017

Marguerite Denise (Poirier) (Gionet) Sieniewicz
On March 19, 2017 our beautiful mother Marguerite Denise Sieniewicz (Poirier) (Gionet) was summoned by angles. A small woman with a huge heart, a large personality, a zest for life, a love of music, the outdoors, animals; and awesome strength of character was born in Caraquette, New Brunswick on September 12, 1922. The daughter of Nazaire Gionet and Alice Marie Dolores Legere she came from a large family of 14 siblings, now all deceased except for her brother Marcel who lives in Montreal. Denise’s’ journey began as an Acadian fluently bilingual and she was extremely proud of her heritage and cherished this all her life. Denise moved to Bathurst NB as a teenager to finish her high school education and pursue a career in nursing. This took her to Halifax NS where she met the first love of her life, the late Clarence Archibald Poirier. Changing gears they married and started a family and eventually moved to her favourite place, Montreal. Together they had 5 children: Lenny (Lynne) Hubbards, NS; Dolores (deceased); Paul (Rain) Fort St. John, BC; Ronald Maurice, Halifax, NS; and Lena, Middle Sackville, NS. Eight grandchildren: Mark, Kelly, Mitchell, Melissa, Nicole (Nicki), Abbey, Katie and Nicholas (Nick); and a total of 8 great grandchildren. Their Montreal home was destroyed in an explosion a few years after which the family relocated to D’Escousse, Cape Breton, Clarence’s’ home town. Denise knew joy and sorrow; she buried her husband Clarence in 1975 and Dolores in 2006. Denise moved to Halifax following Clarence’s’ death and resumed her career in nursing working at Northwood Manor. This move resulted in her finding the second love of her life, Stanley Earl Sieniewicz (Northwood Center). They married and settled in Halifax until their retirement when they relocated to ‘the farm ‘in Lower Cornwall, NS. ‘The farm’ was a large acreage, peaceful and abundant; they lived there happily for many years until their relocation to Parkland retirement living in Halifax. Denise was a devout Catholic, generous and loving; a true giver who gave of herself freely without expectation. To know her was to love her; she is a great loss to our family. We thank the numerous caregivers, the staff at Parkland, the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Northwood Center and the medical staff at the Halifax Infirmary for their dedication and support. The celebration of Moms/Grammy’s life will be on August 12, 2017 at Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Upper Tantallon; a follow up notice will announce the time and details of the service. Condolences can be left on the www.rawalker.ca. No flowers please. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society on Denise’s behalf.
