DONALD JOSEPH SURETTE
1942-2017
Donald Joseph Surette, of Dieppe, passed
away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Moncton Hospital on
Monday, March 20th, 2017, after a courageous 2
year battle with cancer.
Born in Moncton, NB, on July
9th, 1942, Don was a painter and was retired
employee of the New Brunswick Community College in Moncton. He enjoyed
fishing and was an avid gardener who loved to share his vegetables
every year. He loved the outdoors and animals, especially his
dachshund grand-dogs: Willie and Gunther. Don was a loyal Toronto
Maple Leafs fan. He will be fondly remembered as always having a joke
to tell as he loved to make people laugh, even throughout his illness.
The morning coffee meetings with friends always made his
day.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years,
Yvette (Arseneault) Surette; his daughter, Janice Surette of
Riverview; his son, Richard Surette (Patrice Wilson) of Windsor, ON;
grandchildren: Jolyne, Isabelle and Evan Surette of Windsor, ON;
sisters: Dian (Edward) LeBlanc and Barbara (Edgar) Richard; brother,
Robert “Bobby” Surette; as well as several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Charles
Surrette, his mother, Edna (Cormier) Surrette and also by his infant
brother, Ricky.
Visitation will be held from the
Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901)
on Friday from 7 to 9 pm and also on Saturday from 11:30 am until time
of departure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, on Saturday, March
25th, 2017 at 1 pm, followed by a reception at
the funeral home.
Donations to NB Doctors Cycling against
Cancer would be appreciated by the family.
The family is very grateful for the
compassionate care Don received at the Moncton Hospital and would like
to thank the staff and volunteers at the Oncology Clinic, staff of the
4200 floor, Dr. Christine Telfer, Dr. Mohammed Harb, Dr. Frank
Schweiger, Dr. Tooraj Shakerinia, Dr. Pamela Mansfield and Dr. Lisa
Searle.
