Walter Radzichowsky

Walter Radzichowsky March 24, 1947 – February 26, 2017

Walter Radzichowsky (CPA) passed away peacefully on February 26, 2017 in the Foothills Hospital after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Walter was born in Montreal on March 24, 1947 to Ukrainian parents Walter (Gigi) Radzichowsky and Rose (Baba) Radzichowsky (Marceniuk).
His father, Walter (Gigi) came to Montreal in 1939 from the Ukraine and his mother Rose was born on a farm in Pine River, Manitoba to Ukrainian parents. Walter was the youngest of three boys; Gerald (Adele) of Montreal and Michael (Margaret) deceased.
He is survived by his beloved wife Donna and two stepsons Adam Nicol and Brandon Gautschi-Nicol (Jillian) and two children Pamela Zimmermann (Tom) and Ian Radzichowsky. He was blessed with five grandchildren; Katarina (Pam and Tom Zimmermann), Talia and Hayden (Ian Radzichowsky), Gus and Hugh Gautschi-Nicol (Brandon and Jillian Gautschi-Nicol).
Walter spent over 40 years as an Accountant. He started his career with British Petroleum in Montreal, transferred to Toronto for ten years, then Calgary for the balance of his life. He ended his corporate career at Turbo Resources in 1992 and within a few years had opened a Public Accounting Practice, Walter Radzichowsky, CMA. This very successful company, when it was sold in 2010, had grown to 10 employees, split into bookkeeping, Corporate Accounting and Strategic Planning divisions and Walter had taken on two partners to become Radzichowsky, Au and Palmer Professional Corporation.
Walter is also well-known for his love of wine. He became an enthusiastic and excellent wine taster over the past 25 years and was the original founder of The Friends of the Vine Wine Club; a club which is still going strong today. He got special enjoyment from sharing a glass of wine with friends and teaching his ‘4 boys’ about wine at their special wine tastings at home.
He also had a special love for tennis, boating on Lake Okanagan at their Cottage overlooking the Lake, Waldon Chalet, helping in the garden and shopping at the beautiful Farmers market and the fishmonger for the fresh fruits and vegetables and seafood that is so readily available in Kelowna.
Walter touched so many lives in his short time with us. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and loved his family dearly. He was taken from us far too soon, but will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
Special thanks to the staff of Units 112 and 47 at the Foothills Hospital for their exemplary nursing care and the kindness and compassion they showed to both Walter and his family through the difficult weeks that he spent there in the end.
Donations can be made to these Hospital Units directly by contacting the Unit Manager at 403-944-3523.
