Catharina, age 87 passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2017 surrounded by family after a 6 month struggle with cancer and a recent stroke. Born in the Netherlands, the eldest of 9 children of Johannes and Pietronella (Broers) Oomen. In 1955, she married Cornelius “Casey” Marinus and immigrated to Canada. They first settled on the Back Rd. Her sister Corry and her husband, Martin joined them in the Comox Valley in 1958. In 1960, they bought their own farm on Minto Rd. where they raised their children. They lived there until 1991 and moved to 20th St. after retiring from the dairy farm. In 1997, she was grateful to have survived a life…
