Dorothy Johnston – 2017

Obituary
Dorothy Jean Johnston (Nee:Longson) passed away on Saturday, February 11 in St. Albert, Alberta at the age of 90 years.
Dorothy was born in Beaverlodge Alberta, December 4, 1926 to Roy and Anna Belle Longson (Nee: Kellner), the eldest of five children. When Anna Belle passed away in 1937, Dorothy, at age 11, became a mother to her younger siblings. After high school Dorothy attended secretarial college in Grande Prairie where she became a whiz at Pitman shorthand and touch typing. She was an independent working woman until she met Harold Johnston and married him on June 5, 1950, She did fall back on her secretarial skills a few times during their long marriage to help support their family but primarily her role was one of mother and homemaker, at which she excelled. Her children will all be quick to tell you that they had the best mom ever. The mothering was extended to grandchildren as well, who all benefited from her guidance and support.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Harold Johnston; children: Susan Nelson (Ken), Greg Johnston (Zina), Doug Johnston (Ruby Roe), Don Johnston (Danielle), Patti Johnston (Lloyd Brandt), and Sandra Johnston. She leaves 17 grandchildren: Mike Leschart, Chris Leschart, Matt Leschart, Cam Leschart, Gerry Johnston, Don Johnston, Alison Johnston, Curtis Johnston, Ashley Johnston, Angela Jackson, Jordon Johnston, LeAnne Wodinsky, Andrea Forbes, Alanna Lawrence, Lisa Lawrence, Rebekah Marcellus, Jacob Marcellus. So far 22 great grandchildren have been welcomed into the family. She also leaves behind her brothers, Don Longson (Leona), and Arnold Longson (Cathy).
