Martin Walsh

Martin Walsh

WALSH, Martin John
Passed away peacefully at The Carpenter Hospice on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the age of 73. Survived by his loving and much loved wife, Kris. Cherished father of Kelly, and Pam (Chris) Arsenault. Proud grandfather of Mason John. Dear brother to Joan (Paul) Sheppard, Marjorie Garneau, Thomas Walsh, Irene (Barry) Lydon, Michael (Francine) Walsh, and Catherine Valcke (Vince Tiano). Predeceased by parents Patrick and Myrtle and infant brother Joseph.
Martin was born and raised in Stratford, Ontario and was proud to be a Professional Mechanical Engineer, having graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1968. An entrepreneur who saw no limits, he spent his early career in the plastics industry, having founded Brampton Engineering and Colortech, two companies that remain leaders in their industry today. Also a born salesman, Martin later applied his talents to growing Crescent Hill Gallery into one of the largest and most successful original art galleries in the country. Martin was larger than life and had a magnetic personality that drew each and every person to him. He wanted everyone he met to reach and surpass their potential and would freely offer advice on exactly how to go about it, no matter the goal. He had an indescribable sense of humour and could turn any uncomfortable situation into one filled with laughter. He lived life to the fullest and stated many times that he had had a good life and was a happy camper with no bucket list. He was absolutely the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and mentor anyone could ever wish for. There are no words to truly express how much Martin is loved and will be missed.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 5-8 pm and again on Thursday, February 16 from 12 noon until the time of service at 1pm. Immediately following the service a Celebration of Martin’s Life will be held at the Water Street Cooker, 2084 Old Lakeshore Road, Burlington. Cremation has taken place and his remains will later be taken to Avondale Cemetery in Stratford where other cherished family members rest. The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Brampton Civic Hospital Oncology Clinic, Mount Sinai Hospital, the Joseph Brant Hospital Cancer Clinic and to the wonderful people at The Carpenter Hospice who made his last days so much easier. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Carpenter Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family and by those who would benefit from them in future.
