Martha Schmidt passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the age of 89 years. Martha was born in Jasien Krs Leipe Westpreussen, Poland on January 3, 1928. In 1945 she moved to Germany. She married Gunther Schmidt on May 26, 1950 and in 1953 they immigrated to Canada, landing in St. John, New Brunswick. After living in a camp for 3 weeks, they were able to move to Calgary, Alberta upon receiving financial assistance from Martha’s Aunt, Natalia Fech.
