BRIX (nee Todd), Florence Elizabeth Colleen (Colleen to her family and friends) –
Passed away peacefully at Riverside Glen, Guelph, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the age of 76, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Gary Brix (2013), to whom she was lovingly married for over 53 years and by her parents The Rev. Collin (1980) and Florence (1997) Todd. Colleen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Tom and Lesley Todd of Perth. Colleen was the proud mother of Wendy (Alan) Garrett of Kitchener, David (Susan) Brix of West Montrose, and Margaret-Ann (Andrew) Brooks of Ottawa. She was greatly loved by her seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Colin, Drew, Sarah, Jaimie, Liam and Adam. Aunt Colleen will be greatly missed by Michael, Ryan, Allison (Slate) and Jeff Todd.
Colleen was born in Toronto and grew up in Georgetown and Niagara Falls, where she met Gary, the love of her life. She was a graduate of Hamilton Teacher’s College and was an elementary school teacher until her first child was born. Colleen was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend. She was a proud member of PEO, Chapter L and was an active member of Trinity United Church and Knox Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph (Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.). Funeral Service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 20 Quebec St., Guelph, on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Colleen will always be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, for her commitment to her church and faith, for her sense of style and grace and for her warmth and compassion towards all who met her. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
