HARRIS, Melvin Stuart, 88 of Cole Harbour died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer, on January 23, 2017. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Stuart (Woodgreen, London, England) and Hattie (Bissett) Harris. Melvin attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and was a proud Cole Harbour farmer all his life. He was a member of the Federation of Agriculture and was the last farmer in Cole Harbour. He was involved in the 1st Cole Harbour Cubs and Scouts, Past Vice President of the British Home Children and Descendants Association of Nova Scotia, as well as a member of the South End United Baptist Church for over 50 years.Melvin is survived by his loving wife, whom he adored, married for 53 years, Sadie (Dearman) and his beloved children Andrew and Sandra; Steven and Kim; Megan and Levent; and his pride and joy, his cherished grandchildren, Brogan, Brigid, Jacob, Mia and Kuzey. He was predeceased by brothers Douglas and Donald. The family thanks Catherine-Anne, OT, and Bayshore Homecare (especially Elisabeth, aJennifer, Amy and Ashley) for their care, support and dedication. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Road, where visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday. Memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday in South End Baptist Church. Reception to follow. Private family interment in Woodlawn cemetery at a later date.
