Mike peacefully lost his long courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Fischer; infant son Daniel; and siblings, Mary, Rose, Daisy, Phillip, Joe, John, and Jake. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Peggy; sons, Ken (Darcel) and Scott (Tabatha); grandchildren, Justin, Amanda, Deja, Jennifer, and May; great-grandson Alex; very special sister-in-law Elsie of Regina; brother Ed of Saskatoon; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, the Howell family, and many friends. Mike was born on July 28, 1942 in Lestock, SK and grew up on a farm south of McLean, SK and met the love of his life through childhood friends, Don and Eileen, and were married in McLean on September 28, 1963. He retired in 2002 from Sherwood Co-op Home Centre lumber department after many satisfying years of service. Mike thoroughly enjoyed helping his customers who would quickly become friends who could easily find him in the warehouse by his unique laugh! After retirement, he volunteered at Agribition, Globe Theatre and St. James United Church, where he helped make dozens of fudge Easter eggs, thousands of pies, and helped with preparation and clean up for fall suppers and dinner theatres. Mike and Peggy were bitten by the travel bug and enjoyed many trips together, including Bali, China, cruises through the Caribbean, bus trips through the US, camping trips to Alaska and Yellowknife, and numerous trips to visit family in Alberta and BC. However, their most favourite destination was Hawaii where they enjoyed three of the islands. Mike’s most favourite time was having family BBQ’s that included a big feast of ribs and corn on the cob. Funeral Service will be held at St. James United Church, 4506 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Special thank you to all of the Palliative Care Workers who took such good care of Mike during the last months of his journey. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make donations, in memoriam, to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6.
