Grant Gjerde

Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Grant Alfred Gjerde, of St. Albert, on January 7, 2017.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Winnie; children, Christina (Doug) Shoults, Patricia Gjerde, and Gregory Gjerde; grandchildren, Ella, and Elijah Shoults; sister, Ethel (Jim) Orr; and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl, and Edna Gjerde.
Grant was born on December 18, 1948, in Tofield, AB. He spent his childhood in Ryley and Camrose. He started work at the age of 12, delivering newspapers for the Camrose Booster, and began his career as a printer at the Booster at the age of 16. He worked 52 years in this trade. It was at a print shop that he met Winnie in 1978. They were married March 15, 1980. Christina was born in August 1981, Patricia in April 1983, and Gregory in June 1986. They settled in St. Albert in 1983 and made many great friends over the past 34 years on Finch Crescent. Grant’s grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved spending time with them. Papa never missed a game, practice, concert or even just movie night with them. Grant was blessed to have many, many friends and relatives visit with him since he was diagnosed, and he loved these visits.
Special thanks to Dr. Doug Maciver and all the incredible staff at Foyer Lacombe Hospice for all the wonderful care they gave Grant in his last few months; their kindness and compassion will always be gratefully appreciated and remembered.
A Celebration of Grant’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday January 14, 2017, at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Grant’s name to Foyer Lacombe Hospice, 1 St. Vital Ave, St. Albert, AB, T8N 1K1, The Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research or the charity of one’s choosing.
