Irene McLeod

Irene McLeod March 12, 1922 – December 25, 2016

We sadly announce the passing of Irene Alice McLeod on December 25 following a brief illness. Irene was born on March 12, 1922 in Penobsquis, Kings County, NB, the daughter of Duncan and Reta (Morton) McLeod. She attended Penobsquis Superior School, and graduated from Sussex High School in 1939. She attended Provincial Normal School, Fredericton, NB and taught school in Urney, Knightville, River Glade, Penobsquis, Sussex, Moncton and Riverview. After many night school and summer school sessions, she received a Bachelor of Teaching from University of New Brunswick. Irene retired in 1981 after 39 years in the teaching profession.
Irene loved the Lord and was an active member of The Journey Church (formally Allison Baptist Church), Salisbury Rd., Moncton, NB as well as The Journey Church United Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society. Irene had a passion for missions. She was a member of the Kings County, NB Historical and Archival Society.
Surviving are cousins Muriel (Patterson) Belyea, Sussex, NB, Evlyn (McLeod) Flewelling, Saint John, NB, Roy and Eleanor McLeod, Ottawa, ON, Harold and Aubrey McLeod, Fredericton, NB. Irene will be greatly missed by close friends David and Carolyn Steeves and family and Darryl and Grace MacCaull.
Funeral service will be held Monday, January 2 at 2:00 pm at The Journey Church, Allison Campus, 1539 Salisbury Rd., Rev. David Moorehouse officiating. A reception and time of remembering will be held in the church hall following the service. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Penobsquis. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB or Journey Church would be appreciated.
