Zelda Marie Streatch –
78, Bible Hill, formerly of Upper Stewiacke, surrounded by her family,
passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the
late John and Charlotte (Barkhouse) McCoul.
Zelda worked many years at Springside Credit Union and Upper
Stewiacke Cemetery Corporation. She was a beautiful quilter, enjoyed
the rewards of her husband’s green thumb, and appreciated
volunteering at the Stewiacke Valley Museum. She was never one to
hesitate in voicing her opinion, either at home or during the many
local committee meetings she attended. Zelda was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, George;
sons, Donald, Halifax; Paul (Sharon), Ottawa; daughters, Sharon,
Truro; Rhonda (Mike) Scissons, Valley; grandchildren, Erin, Tyler,
Ben, Emma; great grandchildren, Oliver, Emmett, Jackson; sisters, Alta
(Wayne) Fanning, Janice (Adrien) d’Eon. Along with her
parents, she was predeceased by her son, Douglas; brother, Robert;
sisters, Mary Deagle, Norma Shannon.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Zelda’s family
will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023, and
funeral service 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023, Reverend Valerie
Kingsbury officiating. (Please wear a mask, if able.)
Interment will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery,
Upper Stewiacke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upper
Stewiacke Cemetery Corporation, Stewiacke Valley Museum, Colchester
East Hants Hospice Society, or to a charity of your choice. Private
