Yvonne Burnstad left her earthly home to be with her Lord, passing away peacefully on July 2nd, 2023 with her family surrounding her.
Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Florence, her siblings: Bob, Jack, Carmen, Genevieve and Ruth, her husband Bud, her second husband Les Knapp, daughter in law Shannon, and her son Bill. She is survived by her sons Tim, and Brice (Shelly), her daughter Marilee (Dale), granddaughter Jara (Kevin) and her great grandson Tripp.
She was born on June 26th, 1938 in Big Valley, Alberta to Florence and Joe Authenac. She was the fifth of eight children raised on the farm. She attended school at Vimy Hill and had many great friends.
She met Bud Burnstad in Big Valley and they fell in love. Yvonne worked at the Royal Bank in Big Valley until she and Bud moved to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and then to Fort Smith, where they got married in 1960. They welcomed Bill, and then Marilee there, and then moved home to Big Valley, where they welcomed Brice, and Tim.
Bud and Yvonne farmed, visited friends, played cards, and had many big adventures together. After Bud passed away Yvonne continued to farm with her sons. She loved life in the Big Valley community and visiting with her neighbors and friends. In her later years she found companionship with Les Knapp, and moved to Stettler until his passing in 2017. Her home was always in the Valley and she lived there until the winter of 2022.
Yvonne was a devoted mother and an incredible grandma. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, playing cards and bingo, and her Tuesday nights with her Twisted Sisters. She will be deeply missed and her legacy will live on through all of her loved ones.
