Day, Alma “Yvonne”
Alma “Yvonne” Day born on December 18th, 1938, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on September 19th, 2023 at the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn.
Yvonne was born in Elkhorn to parents Joseph and Milley Ruddick (Nielly). She grew up on the home farm in the Kirkella district. During this time she attended Kirkella school then continued her education at Elkhorn school. Yvonne enjoyed outdoor activities including skating and sledding.
In 1956, Yvonne married Lorne Cheaters and together they had five children, Gary, Richard, Joanne, Laureen and Rodney. After the dissolution of their marriage, Yvonne married Ken Day in 1976 and together they had one daughter, Kerri.
Yvonne was a telephone operator in her early working years and was a devoted farm wife for most of her life. Yvonne was a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge at Kirkella, Royal Purple Lodge of Elkhorn, Elkhorn Trinity United Church Circle, Elkhorn Leisure Centre, Elkwood Manor & Parkland Ladies.
Yvonne loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and most recently her great grandchildren. She took up a love of quilting and made sure each of her family members had one of her beautiful creations, and as a new baby arrived, they were blessed with a baby quilt.
Yvonne had many health battles over her later years. She fought them with a grace and dignity that we strive to have within ourselves.
Yvonne is survived by her husband Ken, son Gary, Terisa, Jordyn, Mason, Xander, Raistlyn, Aaryz, daughter Joanne (Bruce), Chris (Jaimie), Zack, Rylie-Ann, Elliott, Avery (Jon), Carter, Cole, daughter Laureen (Rod), Travis (Alysha), Gavin, Sheldon, Jesse, Hayley (Matt), Declan, Westyn, son Rodney (Keely), Christopher, Luke, Rylan, daughter Kerri (Ken), Leeza
(Konner), Harper, Sage (Jenna), Lynken, Stetson, Jorja, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Yvonne was predeceased by her brother Wes Ruddick, son Richard, sister in law Betty Day, and granddaughter in-law Bailey.
The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Elkwood Manor for their kindness and care for Yvonne her last few years; as well as Carscadden’s Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness during this time.
Yvonne’s funeral service will be held at Elkhorn Elk’s Hall Monday, October 2, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. with a small lunch being held after a private interment in Elkhorn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations being made to Prairie Mountain Health for Elkwood Manor PCH P.O. Box 172 Elkhorn, MB R0M 0N0 or to Diabetes Canada 1300-522 University Avenue Toronto, ON M5G 2R5 in memory of Yvonne.
