It is with great sadness that the Young family announces the passing of Wilfred on March 26th, 2023 at the age of 84 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Wilf passed away at home with support from family and the palliative care team.
Beloved husband of Berneice Young (nee Goodfellow) of 53 years. Loving father of Debbie Hill (Steve), Kim Ferreira (JP) and Michael Young. Cherished papa of Kayla, Ashley, Ryan, Logan, Abby and Tessa.
He will be sadly missed by his siblings Jean Beamish (late Len), Fran Houlahan (late Tony) (late Jack Wilson), as well as his many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by his parents John and Helena Young (nee Moore), as well as his brothers Pat Young (late Lorette) and Basil Young, and half-sister Connie Dagg (Sam).
Wilf was born on October 16, 1938 in Chelsea, Quebec where he was raised on a farm and hard work. At the age of 19, his family moved to the Vars area where he would later settle and raise a family. Wilf was a true entrepreneur at heart, a self-made man, selling firewood, running a tree cutting service, clearing snow at the hospitals, and later in life selling hardwood sideboards and straw. For as long as he was able, hard work and making a dollar was what made him tick. Determined by nature throughout life, he was an inspiration in his strength and toughness right to the end.
The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to April Goodfellow for her devoted care over many years, and to Fran and Kerry Houlahan and Marian Gould-Chapman for their loving support in recent months. Special thanks as well to Dr. Bence-Bruckler, Alana and team who cared for Wilf throughout his health struggles, and were instrumental in extending his life, as well as the Orleans Palliative Care Team for their support and kindness.
Friends and family may pay their respects at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Road, Orleans on Thursday March 30th, 2023 from 4PM to 6PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 17 First Avenue, Russell on Friday March 31st, 2023 at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers, and if you so wish, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Trinity Bearbook Parish Cemetery.
