Wesley J Smith, of Moosomin , in his 88th year, beloved husband of Gladys, loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, farmer and friend, passed away in Moosomin LTC October 21, 2022.
A celebration of life will be held at Moosomin Armoury Hall Tuesday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. with David Ablass officiating. Interment will be in Moosomin South Cemetery.
Wesley J Smith (Wes) of Moosomin Sask, passed away October 21, 2022 in his 88th year with family at his side. Wes is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gladys. Together they raised 5 sons, Bruce MacPherson (Leila), Brian MacPherson , Colin MacPherson (Ellie), Lyn Smith, Vern Smith (Judy) and 2 Daughters, Shelley Smith, Joy Niemetz (Calvin).
Wes had 2 brothers Melvin (Lil) Smith and Raymond (Beth) Smith and 2 Sisters Shirley (Ron) Klassen and Bernice (Ron) Nelson.
He was predeceased by Brian MacPherson and Raymond Smith
Wes has 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was always laughing alongside his grandchildren while working with them on the farm.
Wes was loved by many nieces and nephews, family was very important to him and he was known as the “one that brought the family together”.
Wes was born on his farm in 1934 and after taking it over in 1961, poured his heart into it for over 60 years until his passing. During those years he grew grain, raised livestock and did land and oil lease clearing and reclamation with his bulldozer. He was honest, hardworking and loved his horses, cattle, dog Polar and his favourite tom cat. He was known to ride horses up until last year, and was thrilled to ride with his family in the mountains in 2015. He also had his pilot’s license and flew his own plane for many years.
Wes and Gladys always had coffee on for friends, family and even strangers throughout their 60+ years on the farm.
Wes’ faith was very dear to him and his hope for the future is described at Rev 21:4 where there would be no more death, or suffering and the resurrection mentioned in at John 5:28. He will be missed by all of us until then.
The family wishes to thank all involved at the Moosomin hospital, Homecare public and private , and especially those in LTC for their compassion and kindness to both Wes and his family.
