Obituary of Wayne Travis
A resident of Chatham, Wayne Travis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Meadow Park Nursing Home in his 87th year.
He was the son of the late Edward & Frances (nee Banks) Travis.
Remembered always by his wife of 66 years Virginia (nee Cook).
Devoted father of Cheri Emrich (Walter) & Sandra Highgate (Lee).
Grandfather of Lauren Emrich (Emiel) & Jordan Emrich (Ashleigh) and Katherine & Joseph Alexander Highgate.
Great-grandfather of Ellie Louise & Nora James.
Predeceased by his siblings, Edward Wellington Travis, Wellington Travis (Betty), Wilhemine Cameron (Ralph Stewart, Ian Cameron), Lyle Travis (Sally), Corinne Prince (Earl), Wanda Gibson (Charles) & Joyce Miller. Survived by brothers-in-law, Bolton Miller and Jarvis Cook (Janet). Survived by former sisters-in-law, Cora & Judy.
Missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins & extended family.
Wayne worked as Superintendent with the Ministry of Environment. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board with First Baptist Church, Chatham and as Treasurer and on various committees of the Amherstburg Regular Baptist Missionary Association for many years. He was also involved with the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec. Wayne sang with the Friends of the North Buxton Male Choir. He loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays, and spending time at the cottage in Shrewsbury.
The family would like extend their sincere appreciation to their very supportive family, friends, neighbours, and staff of Meadow Park for their care and compassion for Wayne over the many years.
Family to receive friends on Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:30 pm & 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. A Funeral will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, September 11, 2023 at North Buxton Community Church, 21991 A.D Shadd Road, North Buxton. Burial to follow at North Buxton Community Church Cemetery.
In memory of Wayne, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
