YAKEM, Wayne Theodore (May 27, 1958 – May 21, 2023)
Passed away, peacefully after a struggle with illness, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, with his loving daughter and caregiver, Laura, by his side Wayne Theodore Yakem of Tillsonburg in his 65th year. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, son of the late Gordon “Ted” Yakem and the late Irene Marie (English) Yakem.
Wayne was a devoted Christian who has been attending North Broadway Baptist Church, Tillsonburg. He loved Jesus and his church. Wayne loved his grandchildren, great-granddaughter Aracida and was highly committed to them. He loved spending time playing with them and their toys as an “all-in” fun grandpa, “Gramps”. Wayne also enjoyed riding his bike, his walks everywhere and no where in particular (e.g., in the Provincial Park in Vermillion, Alberta). He was a “master fix-it up man” who was most happy when he had a project in front of him to challenge him. He especially loved fixing cars, computers, tinkering with motors, etc. He operated a small business called “Centre Tech” in Manville, Alberta for several years. He loved all things hockey on the ice or the street playing always as Wayne Gretzky, his idol. He also liked swimming and the outdoors.
Wayne is survived by his loving daughter and caregiver Laura Johnson, of Tillsonburg, who upon hearing of her father’s illness immediately took him into her home to care for him. Proud and loving “gramps” of Christopher, Branden, Reed, Xavier, Vivica, Leonidas and their father Reed Johnson and proud and loving great-grandfather of Aracida and her mother Sadie. Proud father of Aaron Yakem, of Edmonton, Alberta and proud grandfather of his children Henri and Mireille and survived by their mother Elise Yakem. Wayne is survived by a sister Amanda Yakem and uncle to her children Abigail, Izzy and Caleb. Wayne is predeceased by an infant son Sheldon.
“The Yakem family wish to express special thanks to all the members of the Care Partners-Palliative Care Team, Tillsonburg for their loving care of their dad Wayne throughout his journey.”
