Vivian Was Born in Invermere, British Columbia on November 2 1947, to Leroy and Ina Barrett, Vivian was the eldest of their 3 children, Vivian Grew up in the Columbia Valley and Married Harold in Wilmar in 1963, soon after they welcomed Rocksann, they stayed in the Valley for a few years where they also welcomed Trevor, they moved around for Harold’s work a lot, which lead them to the Vernon/Shuswap area where they welcomed Colin their youngest. Vivian and Harold made the move to Whitelaw AB in 1974 where they worked and lived on the farm, Vivian spent many years working at the Fairview Hospital, Boyts Department store, cooking in camps as well as at the Fairview College.
Vivian had a passion for crafting, she loved crocheting and sewing, which she has passed down to many of her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and was always up for a coffee visit with her friends. They also enjoyed some travels in their life, Las Vegas for the NFR, many horseshows around Canada, Minnesota to visit family and their last trip to the East Coast in 2017. Vivian and Harold enjoyed the rodeo life and spent much of their time watching the boys and grandchildren as they went thru their rodeo days, never missing an opportunity to spend the night dancing or sitting around the table listening to the guitars and singing along.
In 2018 Vivian and Harold sold the farm and moved South to Ponoka.AB, in hopes of being able to attend horseshows and being a little more central to the southern rodeos. They stayed in Ponaka thru Covid and than made the move to Olds, AB in 2021. In August of 2022 she had to say goodbye to Harold, and in November she made the move back up to Fairview to spend her last days.
Vivian always had a joke or funny story to tell, always looking for a reaction, there was often never a dual moment in the house of Vivian and Harold.
Vivian will be remembered for her funny nature, her smile and sense of humour. She was a strong woman, battling Cancer for over 10 years. She will be deeply missed by all her loved ones, and the many people who had the honour of knowing her.
At Vivian’s request there will be no service.
