It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Vincent Joseph Battiste, of Potlotek who passed away at the QE11 VG Hospital in Halifax on July 3, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Born April 12. 1947 in Potlotek, he was the son of the late Jacob Joseph Sr., and Madeline (Nicholas) Battiste.
Vincent worked many years in Carpentry with John D. Johnson. He also helped out with the Children’s Aid Society by transporting them to their appointments. He was a survivor of residential school in Shubenacadie.
Vincent will be sadly missed by his sisters, Bridgette Goodwin, Potlotek, Alfreda (Barry) Worthen, Halifax, Elizabeth Benoit, Potlotek, Harriette Battiste, West Bay, and Marlene Julian, Potlotek; godchildren, Star, Chelsey, Jennifer, Letitia, Madeline, and Joyce. He is also survived by numerus nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Vincent was predeceased by his sister, Helen Battiste, and brothers, Anthony Battiste, Peter Battiste, and Jacob Joseph Battiste Jr.
Visitation will be held at the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Chapel in Potlotek on Monday July 10th at 1 pm up until Wednesday, July 12th at 1:15 pm.
Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Vincent will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter’s with Rev. John Yake officiating. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery in Barra Head.
A Salité will be held at the Potlotek Community Hall in Potlotek following the burial.
