Veronica “Noney” Benoit
Feb 8, 1950 – July 13, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Veronica “Noney’ Benoit (nee Hackett) announces her passing at the Health Sciences Centre in St John’s. She was in her 73rd year. She leaves to mourn her daughter Louise Benoit and her siblings Herb (Marg) Hackett, Wynne Skeffington, Eva Lusky, Martha (Mike) Oliver, Laura (Dave) Stewart, Alton (Carolyn) Hackett, and her grand pets Chloe and Tikka. She had numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a large close circle of relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Ted Benoit, her parents Victoria (Curley) & Peter Hackett, her parents in law Roddie & Marie Benoit, her sister Louise, her brother Phil, sister-in law Cathy, brother-in law Max, her niece Erika, and nephew Stephen.
Veronica graduated from the St. John’s General School of Nursing in 1972 and went on to work as a nurse for the next 40 years. She started her career in Stephenville, then went on to White Rock, BC. She ended her career in Northern Manitoba working with the indigenous communities in Tadoule Lake and Brochet. She was a life-long healer and was honoured by her Native Woman’s group with the name of Healing Hawk. She became a ready resource for her family and friends when she eventually retired in Benoit’s Cove. She loved visits to her cabin on Woods Island. It was her happy place. She enjoyed dinners, playing cards and darts, reading, music, travelling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday July 18, 2023 at 10 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, in Benoit’s Cove, with Father Edward Terry officiating. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to one of her favourite charities: Canadian Cancer Society; Food Bank; or SPCA. Please consider donating blood at Canadian Blood Services to help support people living with leukaemia.
Celebration of Life to follow immediately after at the Benoit’s Cove community hall extension.
